Director, Quality

ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions Americas is recruiting for the role of Director of Quality.  Ideally this role will be based in New Haven, CT and represent the division, reporting to the Chief Operations Officer.

 

In this role, you will assess our current quality programs - across the division -- and recommend and implement improvements. You will work collectively with the quality, supply chain and operations communities to define the "rules of engagement." Additional responsibilities include:

 

  • Set divisional quality expectations while maintaining collaborative relationships with the product companies
  • Lead and facilitate the Americas Quality Council to agree on minimum Quality requirements and to share best practices
  • Use the Global Quality Assessment tool to measure Quality maturity (with the local quality teams) of the product companies and drive year over year improvement
  • Provide quality leadership to individual entities; i.e. lead improvement initiatives, train local resources, provide expertise using the global quality assessment, work with the quality leaders to assess their "quality maturity" and drive year over year improvement
  • Roll out and drive improvement in key quality KPIs including external failure, COPQ and supplier DPPM
  • Work with target product companies to solve problems and implement quality systems that assure defect containment
  • Ensure all product companies have quality programs in place, special attention to those affecting metrics negatively
  • Create a culture that assures continuous improvement in the 4 pillars of the ASSA ABLOY OpX System (Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost)
  • Develop and maintain a divisional "library" of best practices and tools associated with quality improvement
  • Represent the Americas division on the global quality council and roll out common global processes and systems
  • Create an effective and consistent supplier quality management system across the division and drive continuous improvement
  • Ensure that our Sourcing teams use rigorous and consistent guidelines in qualifying vendors.

 

Requirements:

 

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering.  Working experience with electromechanical products is desired
  • In depth knowledge of APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and other quality systems
  • 4+ years of experience as a quality professional in manufacturing, preferably in machining & assembly environments
  • Experience developing and implementing quality systems and processes
  • A basic technical understanding of both mechanical and electromechanical components
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing or similar continuous improvement methodologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and motivate others
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels, both internally and externally
  • High energy and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time
  • Willing and able to travel, sometimes internationally, up to 50% of the time
